pyrography on fluted lumber mill waste. 105cm x 60cm.
Fossil records suggest that the construction industry flourished in the 21st century, to the extent where supplies of sand, concrete and steel were so depleted that existent materials were repurposed for industrial purposes. This object is believed to be an artist’s impression/blueprint of a new plant-supported property development. Property creators are well-documented as having been at the forefront of efforts to become “greener”. Many sources point to the ritual obsession of property developers with awarding “stars” to works for minimal energy use and green installations. In the early 21st century, 4 or 5 “stars” were customary- this later stretched to 8 in the 22nd. Tragically, the sustainable efforts of property developers were unsuccessful in mitigating the most grievous impacts of human-induced climate change. Historians are divided, but recent evidence suggests that it may have been the fault of individual consumers who simply didn’t choose these “green” housing options. |
